Truths of New School

It's nerve racking, some might say. The transition from a junior high to high school is a familiar experience for me. As to a completely new environment. I'm not the type to say I moved around a lot and went to 15 schools in 10 years. Because I haven't. Only what, like 5 in 10 years. I got used to it, knowing it's almost like the previous time, nothing's changed at all, really.

For me, it's like, "is it that time of the year already? Guess I'll take a drive to the mall and plead to mum to buy new pair of jeans." You see, the realization hasn't sunk in deep yet. I'm still that same girl who graduated from 9th grade in June. I haven't thought about too much, of beginning another year where the school is dominated by seniors.

The routine of summer is ending. Every week over the summer, it's been like "late TV series night, sleep at 1'o, wake 10'o, da da da" Lazy and lazy. As I got my letter for school lists last week, I thought,"Yeah, I won't able to do this much more." At that time, I never really gave it a big thought, but I now it is starting to settle in a bit, since school starts in about 3 days. But it's something everyone has to deal with, I suppose.

Photos of flowers

The lighting is a bit dark. Of course, because it's indoors. Please ignore the background.

Real yellow rose. Not artificial.

Okay to be different

I heard it's already the tennis season in a small city of NC. But in Washington state, where I'm from, it's in the spring. What's with that? So when they're suffering from the sweltering sun and avoiding dehydration at all cost, I will be doing everything I can to keep my toes from frost bite (although just trying to survive try-outs). Technically, it's still winter when the season starts, just end of February.

What I also will be trying out for is basketball. Like I can get passed that. . . Who knows any Asian (Japanese, to be specific) girl in a varsity basketball team? Not around here. My height is a hindrance, too. Yet, that's a plus. If I'm tall but still am not good enough, it will be embarrassing to not make the team. Anyways, IF I won't get cut, it will be an unusual experience, kind of exciting to be that one girl in the team with shiny black ebony hair. The only nerd, too, I suppose. Time to start training myself!

Japanese Summer Festival

Today was one of my favorite days of the year. Where everyone (mostly Asians) gather, eat food, play games. Basically to have a great time. Though I do that every
day, what made this day special compared to any other day was because of Japanese Summer Festival.

I haven't gone anywhere over the summer, except to grocery shopping and frequent driving lessons by Mum. So I was really excited for the festival, the most enjoyable activity I had was goldfish scooping (金魚掬い kingyo sukui, to be more accurate). Here's what should've looked like:

You see, there's a couple swimming in that bowl. MY bowl = O a big fat O. Yeah, pathetic. Doing it for the first time may have been a contributing factor. . .

After, my mum had bought my family a drink, which was frozen. So I had done what anyone would've done in a car. Warm it up with your hands to the extreme, with intense pressure.
Oh, my teeth weren't a big help. Biting into plastic isn't my thing. Just under an hour before all melted and quenched my thirst. And look at the size of that. World record for slowness? My sister won it. I came second to last.
